Cherry Tomato Pasta Sauce (Super Easy + Only 5 Ingredients!)

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is going to farmer’s markets, get a TON of fresh veggies, and use them in fun ways in the kitchen. This tomato sauce is one of my all-time favorite farmers market dishes. Fresh cherry tomatoes are so vibrant and have so much flavor that you don’t have to add much else when cooking with them!

20 minutes + 5 ingredients = the pasta of your dreams.

Cherry Tomato Pasta Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2-3 cups of cherry tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tbsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped up fresh basil

Instructions

  1. In a pot, add all of the ingredients (apart from the fresh basil).
  2. Turn the pot to medium low heat, cover with a lid and let the ingredients heat up for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Then, once the ingredients have heated up and you hear a slight sizzling sound, stir the ingredients around and turn the heat to low.
  4. Put the lid back on and let the tomatoes cook and break down for about 10 minutes. Make sure to stir frequently or the tomatoes and garlic will burn.
  5. After about 10 minutes, once the tomatoes have softened, use a spatula or potato masher to smash the tomatoes. If the tomatoes aren't soft enough to softly mash, let them cook and soften for a few minutes longer.
  6. Add your fresh basil (if using) and allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for another few minutes, continuing to stir frequently. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. That's it! Add it to your favorite pasta and enjoy!
